Just sketching

It's 2:13 pm and I want it to be 4 pm, so while I'm waiting for that, I thought I would upload a page from my sketchbook.

SKETCHBOOK......................

Lots of stuff in my sketchbook. I don't know why everything has a yellow tint by the way.

A Little bit of a rant..

*below is my thoughts on a topic in class today, it does not have to do with any parties that could be mentioned or anything that has happened, it is purely my own thoughts over the subject*

Today in class we had a bit of a lecture concerning copyright law and how it affects the Internet as well. In my generation (and I'm talking about those of us born in the 90's when the Internet was becoming really big) it become quite apparent in the last few years that we no longer pay for the music or tv shows on our computers and phones anymore. I mean some of us do, others get copies from other people or download it directly from downloading websites. The bad thing is we do that without a second thought. Now I'm not saying that I've never done either of these things because I have and I'm not afraid to admit that. It still wasn't right, I mean even if it was something stupid to most people it still wasn't right. I know a lot of people do these things unintentionally, because most of the time we type our searches into google and click the first link that pops up. Whenever this topic is brought up there are usually two parties, you have one who will say,"Anything that is published to the Internet is not copyrighted", and then the other saying,"Anything that is published to the public, including the Internet, is copyrighted unless the original user says otherwise." I have to be honest and say I agree with the second statement, even though in the past I have violated that line of thinking. Lately though, like the last 3 months, I have run across way too many things where people (mostly artists, but others who create word documents and such as well) have said that someone has ripped their work off of their site and claimed it as their own. Some of these people are my friends, others are artists who I follow because I enjoy their work. I have been in a couple of these situations myself (they were resolved quickly though), the point of this is that it's really not cool. Of course I know that when I say this it's not going to change anything now or even do anything at all.

Recently, even before this lecture in class, I've thought about things such as this. A couple weeks ago I came to a realization of my generation: that we are willing to protest for an entire day for things such as SOPA and PIPA, but we won't really do anything at all about protecting people's rights of work that they publish to the Internet to self-promote themselves. I think something needs to be done about that, because personally as someone who wants to move on as a graphic artist or illustrator I don't want to have to worry about people stealing my work over a computer, and put on merchandise and sold in stores that I have not approved of (because this has happened in other countries to artists all over).

If you really want to use an image or document or music in anyway that would possibly cause the originator to sue, you could ask. Most are very willing to let you do something with their work (most of this is asking for permission to get a tattoo of the artwork). I know that this could take time and effort for some with personalities that don't appreciate such a thing, but really is it that hard to ask? Is it impossible to wait? I don't think it is, but I know that I am only one in over a billion, but at least I'm one who not only acknowledges this, but is willing to say something.
